Christmas Delirium

I am confused.

When I walk around our neighborhood, I have to remind myself that Christmas is in 25 days and not tomorrow. But when I see people decorating in in flurries with their lights, electrical reindeer, snowflakes and santas, I can't help feeling a little 'behind'.

Am I strange in that I usually wait till December to decorate? Or that we usually get our tree the 2nd weekend of December or so?

I know that there is no rule of thumb (except for goodness' sake, wait until AFTER Thanksgiving to bring out the trimmings), but I feel off the wagon on this one. And the thing is, I am not going to change either.

We are still in November, right?

I'll see you in a couple days. . .

joe and i were just having this chat last night. :) probably cause i was trimming the windows with lights...and putting up the stockings...and playing Christmas music. :) i struggle with the same conflict of feeling, and yet i can't help myself. it's no accident that Christmas has such a draw. and so, we concluded our conversation with the fact that, though we shan't be succorred into the holiday by mass media and decorations arriving in stores in october, we Christians, of all people, should be eager and ready to dive in with both feet. i think observing Advent really helps that because the Christmas season begins the first sunday of December. all that to say though, you can get your tree whenever you want! ;) we know you love Christmas.

love you!

We don't like decorating for Christmas until after Thanksgiving. It's sad that such a wonderful holiday as Thanksgiving is not fussed over like Christmas.

Okay Amy better stay away from me. I already have the stocking up and have since the week of Thanksgiving. I usually put the tree up either the Fri. after Thanksgiving but have also done it the week of Thanksgiving or the Sat before. I have been listeing to Christmas music since I think it was the Fri before Thanksgiving on 101.9. I went to the store and checked to see if they were playing Christmas music. My radio in both the house and the suburban have been set to that channel ever since. I enjoy Thanksgiving but we always go somewhere else for an extended family Thanksgiving and I really don't know what to do to decorate for Thanksgiving. Table clothes and centerpieces (but don't have a dining room table). I love Christmas so much I drive hubby crazy because I play so much Christmas music. I hate to see it go. IN fact I keep up the decorations until at least Epiphany in Jan.

We get our tree the weekend after Thanksgiving, but it takes me a week to decorate (very simple stuff, not a lot, I'm just slow...). This way when December comes we are ready to just celebrate and enjoy it.

I think it's not unlike other holidays/seasons that are celebrated more than 1 day (often birthdays, Passover/Spring, Autumn/Halloween, etc). Christmas is just brigher :). I definitely agree with Jen that "Christians, of all people, should be eager and ready to dive in with both feet."

I never understood old movies where they are "trimming the tree" on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day??

Hmmm - good point, all of those old movies do trim the tree the night before. . . maybe its to keep the anticipation up or something? I kinda like the idea but I don't like the thought of having a naked tree.
